The London Development Agency (LDA) has begun a search for development partners for a site in the Albert Basin in east London’s Royal Docks.

It is seeking a partner to help it develop The Gallions Quarter which will be mixed-use scheme, with more than 600 new homes built to high environmental standards in a neighbourhood next to Gallions Reach DLR station.

The LDA said that the Royal Docks area is emerging as London’s top regeneration priority for the next 25 years. “The LDA and its partner the London Borough of Newham want to realise the full potential of the Royal Docks, which is already home to the University of East London and the ExCeL exhibition centre,” it said.

It said it also wanted to capitalise on the transformation of east London, which will be boosted by the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

LDA deputy chief executive Peter Bishop said: “With the eyes of the world on London in the run-up to the 2012 Games, we are looking for partners who share our vision for east London. We look forward to working with a development partner to build high-quality homes and create a sustainable community.”

The LDA announced its intention to seek partners on sites across east London at the international property fair MIPIM in March. It has extensive land holdings, primarily in east London and throughout the Thames Gateway, and aims to develop or dispose of its larger sites within the next five years or so. The site at Gallions Quarter forms part of a larger overall site owned by the LDA in the Albert Basin.

The selection process will be supported by the Climate Positive Development Program, a project of the Clinton Climate Initiative and the US Green Building Council that aims to reduce carbon emissions from new buildings.

The LDA said it was particularly keen to get expressions of interest from small and medium scale developers.
