Belfast shopping centre wins planning award

Belfast’s Victoria Square shopping centre-led regeneration project has been awarded the Royal Town Planning Institute’s top planning prize today.

The 800,000 sq ft Belfast scheme (pictured) picked up first prize at the RTPI Planning Awards 2010 earlier today. The Silver Jubilee Cup was presented to its designers, BDP, by shadow communities and local government minister Bob Neill at a ceremony in London’s Hilton Hotel.

The project was picked from a shortlist of 32 entries from across the UK. Commendations and other awards presented will be announced later this afternoon.

The Award’s judging panel consisted of Kay Powell, (Secretary of the National Planning Forum) and Chair of the Judges, Gareth Pryce, (Vice President of the Planning Summer School) and Professor Chris Couch of  Liverpool John Moores University.
