The chief executive of Regenerate Pennine Lancashire, Max Steinberg, has been appointed as chief executive of Liverpool Vision.

Steinberg, 58, will replace Jim Gill, who announced his retirement earlier this year.

Steinberg was awarded the OBE in 1997 for services to housing and regeneration on Merseyside. He began his career at Liverpool City Council in 1975 before moving to the Housing Corporation, where he spent 25 years. He then moved to be chief executive of Elevate East Lancashire in 2003. Since 2009, he has been chief executive of Regenerate Pennine Lancashire.

Chairman of Liverpool Vision Mike Parker said: “He [Steinberg] has an impressive track record of innovation and achievement and impressed with his understanding of the issues facing Liverpool Vision and the City of Liverpool.

“The next few years will provide Liverpool with both a huge challenge through the squeeze on public expenditure, but also significant opportunities to build on the city’s worldwide brand and improved image.”

“Max’s knowledge and experience will be invaluable in helping us to take maximum advantage of those opportunities.”

At Regenerate Pennine Lancashire, Steinberg oversaw the creation of more than 1,000 new businesses; the attraction of £10m of private investment; the development of the Pennine Lancashire brand and agreement of an integrated investment strategy with seven local authorities, the Northwest Regional Development Agency and the Homes and Communities Agency.

Steinberg, who is expected to take up his new role in July said: “I have always been passionate about my home city and I am excited to be returning to work in Liverpool.”

Councillor Warren Bradley, leader of Liverpool City Council and deputy Chairman of Liverpool Vision said: “Max Steinberg is one of UK’s leading practitioners in urban regeneration, housing and economic development and he is a very experienced chief executive and managing director in the public sector. I am delighted we have got him.”
