Salford City Council has approved the planned redevelopment of the former Colgate factory in Salford Quays as a 380,000 sq ft office scheme, pending section 106 agreements being agreed.

Private equity firm the Carlyle Group and joint venture partner Abstract Nikal are planning to redevelop the former factory as part of a regeneration on an 8.42-acre site in Salford Quays. The factory is to be renamed Soapworks and form part of the Ivy Wharf mixed use development.

The joint venture partners have been in discussions about the scheme with Salford City Council and Central Salford urban regeneration company. The factory is to be redeveloped as office space with retail, a gym and restaurants on the ground floor.

Mark Harris, director at The Carlyle Group, said it was encouraged by the support it had received from the community and Salford Council: “Our commitment to commence construction immediately on the Soapworks site as soon as we have full planning in place, reflects our confidence in both the project and the Manchester region.”
