What it is

The new Conservative-Liberal Democrat coalition has published a manifesto for its time in government. The long-awaited document gives detail on the outcomes of the two parties’ frantic negotiations early last week.

When it came out

20 May 2010

Why it is important

The document sets out far-reaching reforms that will affect all areas of public property, including scrapping most RDAs, abolishing regional planning, axing the Infrastructure Planning Commission and considering the case for getting rid of government offices in the regions.

Dear Mr Cameron. I have been a labour supporter for many years, however its with great interest that i view this coalition. At last, mobile phones at school being confiscated ! Teachers unafraid of moving disruptive children away from the classroom. Im not sure what to think of school academies, i think smaller children could be bullied ! (no children myself). If we are to make all these cuts, please, please think of all that manpower you have at your fingertips. Yes, The unemployed ! There is no way you can push them all in to a job, some have been unemployed for years. Why not, get them to do work in the community until a job becomes available. I dont mean litter picking, howabout being trained to empty bedpans, sickbowls, commodes, fetch glasses of water, feed patients, list is endless. Lets get our nurses back to the job they were trained for. Endless cuts will create a lot of misery, dole money should be earned. You also have a few tradesmen ,schools in a state of disrepair. Lets have some community bonding, visits to elderly people etc. Whats wrong with working for dole ? Im sure the longest unemployed will find it hard to get their backsides out of bed, as a taxpayer i would like only the fit and able people to do this. Please do not hound the ones who are genuinely sick. My mum had regular medicals, sometimes being asked to do things that caused her intense pain to prove she was unable to do a lot of tasks. So lets take a look at the millions of people, there is no point in saying get a job in 3 months or your dole and benefits will stop. A work colleague went for a job at a local hospital, they were inundated with applicants. Im not suggesting you replace peoples jobs with unemployed people, just take some pressure off where your cuts have been and are going ! Also i hope anti social activities will be tackled more, old folks should not be afraid to go out. I like the idea of bringing sports back to schools, lets get our kids caring again. I was out walking when i over heard a group of youngsters,on seeing some ducks across a path, say lets run them over ! What the hell is happening,so much cruelty. I did stop to make sure these kids on bikes didnt run these poor creatures over on their bikes, a man further up made them get off . Whilst out walking i came across a mirror in some very dry grass,is this how they are setting fire to heathlands ? I disposed of mirror. Hope my little rant helps. yours sincerely Karen West.
