Birmingham gets new regeneration head in reshuffle
Birmingham City Council has restructured its cabinet, with Timothy Huxtable becoming cabinet member for transportation and regeneration.
At the council’s annual general meeting yesterday, leader Mike Whitby announced Huxtable’s new role, which combines two previously separate portfolios, alongside the creation of a new cabinet member for finance, Randall Brew.
Further changes to the make-up of the council’s scrutiny structure will also be made to reflect the new cabinet portfolios, with the overall number of scrutiny committees reduced as the transportation and regeneration committees are each merged into one.
Whitby said: “In the current financial climate, and set against the national issues regarding debt and controlling public spending, the creation of a dedicated cabinet member for finance is the logical next step in further developing our reputation for fiscal discipline and achieving efficiency savings while at the same time driving up the quality of services we provide.”
