£3.5m Nottingham NHS research centre completes
A new £3.5m Biomedical Research Unit into Digestive Diseases has been completed at Nottingham University.
The 7,000 sq ft building (pictured), which is part of the Queens Medical Centre, is funded by a joint venture between the National Institute of Health Research and Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust.
It aims to cure hospital infections such as superbug MRSA and digestive diseases via a laboratory, a tissue culture room and an in-patient area for intensive studies on up to four volunteer patients at a time.
Property firm Simons delivered the development, following procurement through the ProCure21 framwork.
Professor of Gastroenterology at the University of Nottingham, Robin Spiller said the unit was “strategically located” near to wards and university academic departments.
He said: “We have created a patient advisory group and through regular meetings with patients we will try to identify things that are problems and try and make sure taking part is easy and a rewarding experience. With the unit in 10 years time we want to say we solved many medical mysteries.”
