Designer hired for Thanet-sponsored theme park
Thanet District Council and Margate Town Centre Regeneration Company (MTCRC) have appointed Whitelaw Turkington as architects to design the world’s first amusement park of classic rides in Margate.
The park, which is part-funded by £4m investment from Thanet District Council, is called Dreamland and is currently owned by MTCRC.
Through the refurbishment scheme, The Dreamland Trust, Thanet council and MTCRC will redevelop the site as the world’s first amusement park of historic rides, including the grade II listed Scenic Railway, the oldest roller coaster in the UK, and a Grade II listed cinema.
The aim is to help attract visitors to Margate and encourage the wider regeneration of the town.
