Uncertain future for West Northants development body
The government is considering axing the West Northamptonshire Development Corporation (WNDC) and transferring its powers to the local authority.
The government said it would review the WNDC’s future work. Any cuts would contribute to the £780m efficiency savings to be made by the government’s Department for Communities and Local Government, which were announced last month.
In a statement to the Commons on Monday, MP Andrew Stunell said on behalf of CLG that there was “potential for transition to a local authority led regeneration body”.
He said: “The government are committed to decentralisation and achieving efficiencies and WNDC will be contributing to the efficiency savings planned.”
