Government backs £4.5bn Brent Cross Cricklewood regen
The Government will not call in £4.5bn Brent Cross Cricklewood regeneration scheme, it was announced today.
In a letter to the London Borough of Barnet the government said: “having carefully considered planning issues raised by the proposal together with all representations received and having regard to his policy on call in, it has been concluded that the Secretary of State’s intervention would not be justified.”
The decision follows backing for the scheme from the Mayor of London and cross-party support in the local council.
Brent Cross Cricklewood Partnership, a joint venture between Brookfield Europe, Hammerson and Standard Life, is delivering the regeneration project which includes 7,500 homes and a new high street.
Jonathan Joseph from the Brent Cross Cricklewood Development Partners said: “This is good news and a major milestone which paves the way to deliver one of the UK’s largest, most complex regeneration schemes in North West London.
“The scheme has received detailed scrutiny from all relevant statutory agencies to ensure the regeneration is right for the area and planned in a safe and sustainable way.”
The partnership is now working with the council to agree the terms of a section 106 agreement.
Work is expected to start on site in 2014.
