HCA Oxfordshire hospital site gets resi green light
Plans to redevelop a derelict Oxfordshire hospital on Homes and Communities Agency land as part of a residential scheme has been given the go ahead.
The HCA, Galliford Try subsidiary Linden Homes and Thomas Homes have been given planning consent for the 354-home scheme on the Victorian hospital site in Cholsey, south Oxfordshire.
Under the plans the grade II listed Fairmile hospital building will be retained to include homes and apartments with new homes also being developed in the surrounding grounds.
Jodee Katalanos, area manager at the HCA, said: “This is great news for Oxfordshire and an important step in retaining and enhancing beautiful buildings and integrating this new sustainable development into the vibrant community of Cholsey.
“It has been a challenging project to ensure the desires of all interested parties are met, but I believe the final development will be a place people will be proud to live and work in Oxfordshire.”
Work is expected to start on site in late summer, with completion in 2014. The first homes will be available for occupation in spring 2011.
