Watford Colosseum gets face lift
The Colosseum in Watford is to be refurbished.
Watford Borough Council has signed contracts that will see work start on the refurbishment of the theatre and entertainment venue in the city next month.
Elected Mayor Dorothy Thornhill said: “This is the green light for the exciting refurbishment plans, which will see the Colosseum restored to its former glory, providing first class entertainment for everyone. I want to reassure residents that this is affordable – we have money in the budget dedicated for improvement of our assets.”
The council signed the building contract with Kier London. Kier London operations director Norman Elliott said: “I am confident that together we can deliver a project that when complete will be a landmark entertainment venue in the area and something that we and the people of Watford will be really proud of.”
The management agreement with HQ Theatres was also signed today, which will see the UK’s second largest theatre operator manage the day to day running of the venue.
“HQ Theatres’ aim will be to ensure that the Colosseum is recognised as an excellent value-for-money entertainment and leisure destination for everyone in the area.”
The refurbishment of the town’s much celebrated music hall and entertainment venue will include an two storey glass front extension to provide a new box office, cafe, restaurant, toilets and office space. Access will be improved with a customer lift to the first floor along with increased seating and new lighting.
