Green light for Salford’s Radclyffe Park scheme
Salford City Council has granted planning consent to LPC Living for a scheme in Ordsall that includes a Travelodge hotel and a 50,000 sq ft Morrisons store.
The Radclyffe Park proposal includes a 156-bed Travelodge, 11 retail units and 114 new homes.
It is part of a wider regeneration scheme in Ordsall, where LPC Living has invested £150m over the past five years.
Construction of the new Morrisons is due to start next month, followed by Travelodge in January 2011. Liverpool-based architect Falconer Chester Hall designed the scheme.
Simon Ashdown, development director at LPC Living said the company had received strong interest in the smaller retailer units, which is located on one of the busiest routes into the city centre and is around 500m from MediaCity.
“With the BBC moving to their new base in 2011, Salford Quays is rapidly gaining national significance,” he said.
“However, it is vital that the outlying areas to MediaCity benefit directly from the investment that is being brought into the area and development such as this needs to respond and positively impact on local training and employment opportunities and significantly improve community facilities.”
Tony O’Brien, Travelodge’s UK development director said: “There is a real demand for low cost accommodation in the area and we believe that Travelodge will be a great addition to Salford, by providing affordable accommodation for the many leisure and business visitors it receives, from the Lowry Centre to the forthcoming BBC building.”
