Permission granted for St John’s Wood barracks scheme
Westminster City Council has given planning permission for the redevelopment of St John’s Wood barracks in London.
Last night the council approved plans to redevelop the site, which is to be vacated by the Ministry of Defence’s King’s Troop. The developer The Trustees of the Eyre Estate wants to demolish existing buildings and turn the site into 133 flats and houses.
Approval was given subject to the developer creating 59 affordable housing units, educational and health contributions, a’ playground, public art and public realm improvement.
Overall, 12 apartment blocks, eight semi-detached villas and seven terraced town houses will be built.
The site’s Grade II listed riding school building will remain, and be converted to provide the new private leisure centre with limited public access included.
