Government invites London enterprise partnerships
The government has invited London boroughs to bring forward plans for local enterprise partnerships to encourage investment in their areas.
In its regional growth white paper that came out this lunchtime, the government has invited London boroughs to propose local enterprise partnerships. These partnerships – a group of public sector and private sector bodies – could take control of issues such as transport and regional planning.
The system would be similar to the 24 local enterprise partnerships that the government has approved across the UK today.
The government has previously indicated that London boroughs may be given a separate structure from the local enterprise partnerships.
The government also confirmed that it plans to scrap the London Development Agency and hand the powers over to the Greater London Authority. The aim is to give London mayor Boris Johnson more power to lead regeneration and growth in the capital.
