The Olympic Park Legacy Company (OPLC) has called for expressions of interest from parties interested in using the Olympic Stadium after the London 2012 Olympic Games.

It said today: “Organisations or consortia, interested in managing, operating in, or locating to the Stadium after the London 2012 Games will have eight weeks to come forward with their interest and initial views. This could include sporting, community, education, visitor attraction and commercial uses.”

NAO report Preparations for the 2012 Olympics

What it is: The National Audit Office has published its latest report Preparations for the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, about funding for the upcoming Olympics.
When it came out: 26 February 2010
Why it is important: The NAO says the government needs to replenish its contingency fund after taking £621m to fund the Olympic Village and Media Centre developments. It says that, while the project is currently on time and on budget, the contingency fund is needed to protect taxpayers from unexpected financial hurdles.

The Olympic Park Legacy Company is seeking two principal advisory partners to help it find a viable use for the main stadium (pictured) after the London 2012 games.
The company, headed by chairman Baroness Margaret Ford and chief executive officer Andrew Altman, last month issued a competitive tender through the Office of Government Commerce for two partners to provide financial and legal advice as it determines the future use of the main stadium.

Why funding for the Olympics confuses me

I have been following the Olympic development with interest.
It seems that all is well in terms of the build programme and the readiness of the project for a spectacular Games in 2012. I am, however, puzzled by the wranglings over responsibility for the £800m debt accrued on the site and the holding costs of the development leading up to the opening of the Games.

Warrington Borough Council has given planning permission for the Orford Park Project, a £30m community sports hub on a 50 acres former landfill site.
The development is scheduled to open in November 2011 and include community, health and education facilities. These facilities are due to include swimming pools, a sports hall, a health and fitness suite, football pitches, a library and a health centre.
The council said construction was set to start on the scheme early this year.

RTPI names Haylock its president for 2012

The Royal Town Planning Institute has appointed planner Colin Haylock to take over as president in 2012.
Today, the RTPI announced it had elected Haylock, urban design director at Newcastle-upon-Tyne based architect Ryder Architecture, as its junior vice-president. This means he will take over as president in 2012.
The RTPI said his main role would be using the 2012 Olympic Games in London to showcase sustainable regeneration across the UK. He would also work with government to refine the planning process.
