NHS subsidiary the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital has moved into a new £5m Outpatient Assessment Centre, officially opened today by the Duke of York.
The three floor Bolsover Street centre, which was developed by Ridgeford Properties and Manhattan Loft Corporation, will offer orthotics, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, pre-operative assessment and plaster theatre.
The Outpatient Assessment Centre has been built on one of London’s historic hospital sites, according to the hospital.

Plans for Malvern’s £17.7m Community Hospital have been unveiled today.
The new-build Malvern Community Hospital (new plans pictured), which is scheduled to open in autumn 2010, will provide 24 beds. It uses Combined Heat and Power as well as geothermal energy in a bid to deliver on low carbon targets.
The NHS is currently responsible for 3% of England’s total carbon dioxide emissions and has an annual energy bill of over £500 million.

Fareham Community Hospital in Hampshire has been officially completed and will start taking patients in June.
NHS Hampshire andpublic-private partner body Solent Community Solutions announced the completion yesterday.
Fran Buxey, Project Manager for NHS Hampshire said: “This new purpose built facility will bring together services that are currently in several locations round the area and will enable more people to receive their health care locally.

More dialysis at home and chemotherapy in the community would help cut the pressure on hospitals and save money, an Audit Commission report says today.
The Audit Commission – which monitors the spending of 11,000 UK public sector bodies – has published a 68-page report Under Pressure about the financial challenge for councils of an ageing population. It said that providing these services at home was cheaper than doing so in hospitals and fewer hospital admissions would help relieve the pressure on the NHS.

University Hospital of North Staffordshire NHS Trust has appointed property consultants Drivers Jonas and Davis Langdon to oversee refurbishment work worth £42m.
The Trust is modernising its buildings in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, in a programme called Fit For The Future. It aims to complete 20 projects on its estate by the end of 2013, including a Private Finance Initiative project and a new maternity and oncology building at Stoke’s City General Hospital.

The National Health Service is failing to learn from independent healthcare providers on how to manage its properties, a healthcare charity has warned.
Independent health charity the King’s Fund said in its 80-page report “Windmill 2009: NHS response to the financial storm” that NHS leaders need to set out their plans to deal with looming cuts in public sector spending. It said this should include working with independent healthcare providers in areas including property and estate management.
